North Landing: Caves, Pebbles & A Spiritual Cleanse (Sort Of)

After four days camping at Haven Blue Dolphin, I wasn’t ready to go straight home and leave behind the salty air and slow mornings. The kids would’ve happily done another few hours in the pool, but I was craving something a bit more… soul food-ish tbh.

I needed a beach. A last hurrah. Something to send off our trip with sand in our toes and peace in my ginger soul. Yes guys, contrary to common belief, we do have souls! 🤪

So I summoned my spiritual sat-nav (Google Maps) and found North Landing Beach, just 25 mins away and conveniently en route back down to Merseyside. (And yes, that’s important because I was not driving “up and over” for any beach.)

🚗 Getting There

You do have to pay for parking (boo), but it’s not far to the beach itself, just a short downhill walk past a cute little beachside café and a café bar. Both looked lovely, especially if you fancy a coffee before braving the pebbles.

🌊 The Beach Vibes: Painfully Pretty

Now listen, this isn’t your soft sand, lie-down-and-nap type of beach.
It’s pebbly. Like, aggressively pebbly.
I said goodbye to the soles of my feet within 30 seconds. At one point I think I stood on a pebble that activated a pressure point in my soul 😩

But honestly? It was worth it.

The place is stunning, craggy cliffs, boats docked on the slopes of the beach, and loads of tucked-away caves begging to be explored.
It’s got that ancient, moody coast energy, the kind that makes you feel like mermaids definitely hang out here after hours.

🧗‍♀️ Caves, Pools & Spiritual Vibes

We spent ages exploring the caves and climbing around the rock pools. The kids loved it — throwing stones into the water, slipping in and out of caves like little adventurers.

I felt like we were on some kind of mythical treasure hunt (minus the actual treasure, unless you count soggy trainees and an average-looking pebble David gifted me “’cause he liked the look of it”). 😂

The weather was classic British beach mood swing:

• One minute: bikini weather
• The next: windbreaker jacket and goosebumps

It was that classic “layer up then do the full Monty five minutes later” scenario.
We loved it. 😅

🍦 Snacks, Lollies & the Drive Home

We finished off the day with some snacks and a cheeky lolly ice, wiped down the worst of the sand/stones (a mix of exfoliant and torment), and headed home to Merseyside. Tired, but full of actual memories.

I’ll be sharing our little reel from the trip too, watch & follow us on TikTok:

🧙‍♀️ Did You Know? A Bit of North Landing History

North Landing has roots in old-school fishing traditions. It was once home to a fleet of cobles, small wooden fishing boats launched right from the beach.

Located in Flamborough, it has a rich history tied to its use as a fishing hub dating back to the 13th century. The area also has Viking and Roman connections, with evidence of a Roman signal station on Beacon Hill and Scandinavian colonisation around 1,100 years ago (according to Flamborough Manor).

The village itself is even mentioned in the Domesday Book as “Fleneburg”.

Not just a beach, it’s a portal into Yorkshire’s salty past and I could feel the history.

💭 Would We Go Again?

Absolutely. Pack your water shoes, bring layers (maybe a flask of tea & picnic), and don’t expect sandcastle heaven.
Do expect:

• Clifftop views
• Gorgeous sea caves
• A cracking family adventure
• Crabbing fun
• And the smug feeling of having discovered a bit of coastal magic

📸 Been to North Landing?

Let me know! Or tag me in your beach pics and cave crawls. I love seeing other families make their own seaside memories 🐚

“David! Quick, get a picture and pretend I don’t know” 👀😉
